Glossy foliage, colored much of the year with red, particularly appreciated in autumn sales. Beautiful spring bloom pinkish in bud then pure white, fragrant. The plant is well adapted for pots, but also forms an excellent ground cover in suitable conditions (half shade or sufficiently humid climate).
Plant needing fertile soil, always remaining fresh even in summer, not calcareous. Avoid too sunny exposure at the hottest hours.
Leucothoe are small, evergreen shrubs native from woodlands of southeastern United States. SCARLETTA 'Zeblid' has lanceolate leaves red then bright green in spring, and becomes bronze in autumn-winter. The flowers appear in April-May, in clusters of white bells (Ericaceae).
