Early, not sensitive to late frost, and very floriferous.
The reflowering is helped by a removing of faded inflorescences in July.
Close to Hydrangea macrophylla, Hydrangea serrata (ssp.yezoensis) are native to mountain areas of North Japan, so more hardy. VEERLE 'Opri301' has an early flowering of flat umbels (Lacecap) pink or blue depending on the pH of the soil, becoming purple after pollination. A reblooming is possible under favorable conditions. In autumn, the foliage becomes wine red to dark purple.
