Deciduous tree native from South-East Europe and Minor Asia. It is the largest species of Hazel, forming, unlike other species, a single trunk. Its port is conical when young, then widens with age.
Highly resistant to difficult conditions, it is well suited in urban areas and widely used in alignment. The fruits are edible, but little used because of their extremely hard skin.
