An evergreen shrub with small dark leaves, very easy to form into a ball, a small hedge or topiary, and a very fragrant bloom.
Good alternative to Holly or Boxwood, for climates not too cold. Prune slightly to keep the compactness and shape, after flowering in early summer.
Osmanthus are native to China. burkwoodii is a hybrid made in 1919 at Burkwood & Skipwith Nursery (UK). It has bright green, oval-shaped evergreen leaves, and produces a bloom of very fragrant white tubular-shaped flowers, in spring. It is the hardiest of all Osmanthus, able to withstand temperatures of -20 °C.
