Prune shortly in late winter to maintain a compact form.
This hybrid is the result of a cross between COTINUS obovatus (North American tree) X COTINUS coggygria 'Velvet Cloak' (purple shrub variety of European origin). Very vigorous, fast growing, it is ornamental with its purple-green foliage turning bright red in autumn, as well as its summer flowering in long purple plume-like panicles. It is a strong shrub, drought-resistant.
