Blood red young shoots, pointed and regular leaves. Compact and erect habit requiring few pruning.
Photinia are evergreen shrubs of East Asian origin. The fraseri hybrids were initially selected by Fraser nurseries (Alabama, 1955) and are a spontaneous cross of glabra (Japan) x serrulata (syn serratifolia, China). 'Red Robin' is the first colorful selection in these hybrids, made in New Zealand in the 70's. 'Carré Rouge' is a natural mutation of 'Red Robin'.
'Carré Rouge' is a selection of Pépinières La Forêt (Nantes), found in mother-plants of 'Red Robin'. The variety is characterized by its compact habit, its smaller and more pointed leaves, and especially its young shoots and leaves blood red colored, very bright.
